views 1547Deco on 44 is an art deco themed, a relatively eclectic themed hotel nestled within the Galle Fort. From the outside, the hotel may seem quite small but the space has been utilised so well that it feels spacious and airy.
Ambience: The hotel opens out its restaurant to those interested in digging into scrumptious continental and Asian delights. On most evenings a band plays while the calming music playing throughout the day creates a relaxing feel. The place is ideal for families.
Food (4 stars)
Mains
Their Beef Works Burger (Rs 1,300) which comes packed with a juicy beef patty, Iceberg Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese, a Fried Egg, Coleslaw and potato wedges is so massive it is hard to bite into but it is well worth the mess.
Deco on 44 dishes out a succulent and peppery Char Grilled Butterfly Beef Steak with Potato Wedges and Grilled Vegetables (Rs 1,500) while seafood lovers will love the fresh jumbo prawns that go into Grilled Jumbo Prawns with Buttered Vegetables and Chips (Rs 3,500).
Desserts
Their desserts are a little average however especially the Dark Walnut Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream (Rs 800) as the brownie is a little on the dry side but the Black Forest Gateaux (Rs 800) was surprisingly alright.
What we recommend: Beef Works Burger
Service: 4 stars
Parking facilities: 3 stars
As always parking within the Galle Fort right next to a restaurant or a café can be a tall order but if you are willing to walk around there is plenty of parking near the Dutch Hospital premises
Toilets: 4 stars
It is a little on the pricey side but the filling portions are value for money.
Would we go again? Yes
Tips/notes by author: The prices are inclusive of government taxes and service charge
