Ozo's Brazilian Brunch

Two weeks back, OZO Colombo launched its first ever Sunday Brunch at their EAT restaurant. Of Brazilian origin, a Churrasco restaurant serves unlimited grilled meat. OZO Colombo is the first in Sri Lanka to offer a Brazilian brunch. Hotel Manager Maheesha Rathayake explains to us that the reason they opted to offer a Brazilian brunch is because of its unique nature. “This is an interactive brunch where diners are served fresh produce straight off the grill. It’s fun and colourful and that’s what the EAT restaurant stands for.”

Executive chef, Meththa Ekanayake, spent months looking through books and recipes to perfect the Brazilian way of cooking. “While we aimed to make the food authentic, we also added our own twist to it.”

Being that this is the first ever Brazilian brunch in Sri Lanka, we went to see what it was all about;

Ambience

The EAT restaurant is located on the first floor of OZO Colombo overlooking the Marine Drive and the ocean. Spaciously designed, the restaurant offers a gorgeous backdrop for a Sunday Brunch.

Food - 4.5/5

The brunch is laid out as a buffet offering soups, salads, cold cuts and bread buns as well as dessert. However, you won’t find the meat laid out on the table. This is because the concept of Churrasco is that waiters move around the restaurant with freshly grilled meat on skewers and then slice the meat onto the diner’s plate at their table.

At the beginning of your dining experience you will be given two flags; green and white. The green flag is to be placed up on the table to indicate to the servers that they are to serve you and the white flag is to be placed up to indicate that you no longer want any meat about to your table and that you are done with the meal.

The best part about Churrasco is that the food never stops! You are constantly served succulent cuts of grilled beef, pork, lamb, chicken and sausages around the clock. And if you are one of those people who are too shy to go serve yourself twice at the buffet then this is the perfect kind of brunch for you!

Overall, we enjoyed the food. The meat was freshly grilled and well prepared so Churrasco is an absolute treat for any meat lover.

Drinks - 4/5

The buffet is accompanied by a complimentary drink. In line with their Brazilian theme, diners are offered a serving of Brazil’s national cocktail, Caipirinha. Made with cachaça, sugar and lime, the cocktail is quite strong but is a great addition to the meal.

Service - 5/5

Because it involves food being bought to the table, the servers are extra attentive. The waiters at OZO are well trained as there was not a single moment in which our plates were empty while the green flag was up. And though the idea of waiters constantly asking you if you require a serving sounds quite intrusive, the staff here is well trained not to be so.

Overall - 5/5

All in all, we found Churrasco to be a refreshing new experience. The concept is pretty exciting and the ambience, the surrounding, the food and the service makes for a great Sunday brunch!
