If you're a fan of pizza, then you know that New York Style Pizza is THE pizza; it has a thin crust, a tangy sauce, and a generous amount of toppings that make it the perfect pizza. And if you're in Colombo, then you don't have to look any further than Champion Slice to get a taste of this iconic pizza style.

Champion Slice is a relatively new pizzeria that opened its doors in 2022, and they're quickly making a name for themselves as one of the best - if not most unique - places to get pizza in Colombo. Specializing in NY Style Pizza with a twist - each pizza is unique with interesting flavours!

I recently dropped by to try them out and was impressed with the distinctive flavour profiles of everything I tried. In fact, no two pizzas tasted the same! The Murda Murda features pizza sauce, mozzarella, meatballs, chicken, onions, bell pepper, sausage, and BBQ sauce. Sweet and tangy, it brings out depths of flavour and creates a unique and tasty experience. This pizza will definitely appeal to meat lovers and kids, owing to its combination of beef and chicken. But if you’re generally not a fan of BBQ sauce on pizzas (which makes the pizza taste a tad sweet), this may not be the one for you.

Do pineapples belong on pizza? Well, The Island Boy certainly thinks so! Comprising pizza sauce, mozzarella, chicken, jalapenos, pickled onions, pineapple, and green chillies, this pizza features a combination of sweet and tangy flavours. Unlike The Island Boy, I am certainly no proponent of pineapple on pizza, but I tried it with an open mind after vehemently avoiding it for years and - it wasn’t as bad as I expected. The sweet tropical flavour of pineapple paired with the savoury toppings transport your taste buds to a beachy paradise. Was I won over? Yes and no. I wouldn’t go out of my way to order it (personal preference, of course), but if it was offered, I would have it.

If you're feeling adventurous and if you're a fan of the iconic Big Mac burger, then you should try the Mac Daddy pizza. It has pizza sauce, mozzarella, a sesame crust, beef, onions, lettuce, pickles, and Big Mac sauce. Yes, you read that right, Big Mac sauce. Biting into this pizza is like chomping on a Big Mac since it tastes exactly like it. It's not for everyone, but I reckon you should give it a try anyway!

For seafood lovers, they have the Singapore Chilli Whaaat!! pizza, which has cream sauce, mozzarella, prawns, crab, Singapore chilli sauce, pickled onions, and coriander. The combination of creamy and spicy flavours on this pizza worked perfectly, and I thought the addition of coriander made it so much better! And for those who like it spicy, there's the Peri Peri Kukula pizza, which has a peri-peri base, grilled chicken, mozzarella, chilli peppers, onions, and peri peri sauce. 

And of course, what’s the point of a New York-style pizzeria without the classic? The OG NYC Pepperoni has beef pepperoni, chilli flakes, parmesan, mozzarella, and pizza sauce. This pizza is perfect for those who like their pizza simple, yet delicious. This, along with Murda Murda and Peri Peri Kukula were my favourites. Champion Slice stands out among other pizza places in Colombo with their pizzas that are large enough to satisfy a family of four or a group of friends. They take pride in offering some of the biggest pizzas in town, boasting an impressive 18-inch diameter. Additionally, they have a dedicated food consultant who ensures their menu is welcoming to newcomers who may not be familiar with NY Style Pizza. 

Champion Slice is a great place to get pizza in Colombo. Their NY Style Pizzas are unique with interesting flavours that you won't find anywhere else. They're perfect for on-the-go and perfect for those who want to indulge in some delicious pizza. Whether you're a fan of meat, seafood, or just plain cheese pizza, they have something for everyone.
