Around The Pearl Riders Reach Kovil Junction And Take On The Chalai Challenge

The Around the Pearl riders headed to Nilaveli early last week to reach Trinco where they participated in a camp organized by the Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation (CPLF). The camp saw the riders donate wheelchairs to aid in the advancement of the quality of life for children with cerebral palsy and their families.

At the camp, the Around the Pearl team conducted a special counselling and guidance session for parents who have children who are affected by the disorder. A simple wheelchair brings mobility, freedom and hope to a child suffering from cerebral palsy, and gives them the chance to enjoy a greater quality of life.

From Trincomalee the riders headed to the landmark Kovil Junction as the New Year dawned to participate in the formidable Chalai Challenge. The Chalai Challenge, a new addition to the event saw 20 international riders and 50 local riders gather in Jaffna to take on a 94 km off-road race through an uncharted coastal route that tested their endurance.

Around the Pearl’ (ATP) which is conducted in partnership with the Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation (CPLF) is taking place for the third consecutive year. The aim of the event this year is to complete 1400 kilometers around the coast to aid in the donation of 400 wheelchairs to those living with Cerebral Palsy.

The cyclists are set to travel the perimeter of the entire island and are currently in Maruchchukkaddi heading to Mannar, Chilaw and Negombo over the next few days before arriving in Colombo.
