“Well, the CHOGM is over and we now have to pick up the pieces.  There’s a new budget and we have to cut our coat according to our cloth!”  commented Mahasen who was sighing in exhaustion.

“I know you worked hard for CHOGM but we can be proud that our little island was put on the world map along with the bouquets and brickbats.”said Sharlene.

“That’s the way when you are in the news.  You take the good and the bad.  At least, people are talking about Sri Lanka.  They are aware that it is more than just a little island off the tip of India. “remarked Palitha, joining in the discussion.

“Yes,  Sri Lanka is known as an independent country and a democracy holding regular elections to  change the government and the elected president.”said Sharlene.

“Well, now we have to recover from the excitement and get back to our normal lives.  The Budget is a sobering effect.”said Mahasen.

“Anyway, we have to cope with the high Cost of Living.  We’ll have to cut down on unnecessary expenses.  Even essentials like milk are costly.  I don’t know how families with small children cope!”said Palitha.

“I know.  Then there is the high cost of electricity.  However much we cut down, the bill is high!”complained Mahasen.

“Let’s stop grumbling and do the best we can,.  We still have fine weather and can dry our clothes in the sun without using the dryer of the washing machine.”said Sharlene.

“You are right.  We still have a lot to be thankful for.”concluded Mahasen.
