Simply Marvellous Sweet Murukku! 

This is one snack and Avurudu treat that we can never get tired of. Although this dish being a New Year specialty it is still available in most places around Sri Lanka all year around. After all, who can simply wait for the New Year to taste, and savour the sugar coated crispy on the outside and soft and crunchy on the inside, mouth watering delicacy that gets your taste buds tingling! 

 


Ingredients 

· 1 small tin of Milkmaid 
· 6 table spoons of dissolved Maggi Coconut Milk Powder in 1 ½ cups of water 
· 750g of rice flour 
· 1 egg 
· 2 teaspoons of salt 

And for the thick yummy sugar syrup 

· 113g of sugar 
· 75ml of water 

Instructions 

1. Heat up the Milkmaid and then add the coconut milk stir until the mix comes to bubble then take it off from fire. 

2. To this very mixture, add up the flour, salt, egg and mix well to form firm dough. 

3. Here’s the fun part! – Roll out to ¼ inch thickness and go crazy with cutting it out in an assortment of shapes of your liking. 

4. And finally you deep fry these little goodies on a low heat until turned golden brown. 

5. To make the sugar syrup – heat up together the sugar and water until it’s of single thread consistency. 

6. Mix up the golden brown Murukku into the syrup until all pieces are well coated. 

These simply marvellous sweet Murukku treats only takes 30 minutes of preparation time and serves 10.
