(Lets face it kids are full of honesty, they say it as they see it. This is a new column written from the ‘HONEST’ observations from our children. It touches on all aspects of the process of growing up and how we as parents can improve ourselves from a child’s point of view).

WALKING ON SUNSHINE

“GROAN”.. woke up to an over zealous Mother. She’s on a new diet full of greens and everything wholesome. Not sure I’m enjoying the energetic effect it has on mum, I’m normally used to a half asleep mother and I was taking a nap before I was so rudely woken up by her rendition of ‘I’m walking on sunshine”. Anyways looks like we’re on a trip again, I’m dressed up to the nines, I bet it’s just a grocery visit, but she still insists on dressing me up.

Oh well I’am her star and she’s my stylist. So we’re all strapped in, I’m in my new superdeluxe car seat with velvet trim. No more newborn car seat for me, I can finally see some road, instead of staring at the clouds all the time. Seetha, our new nanny sits with me in the back. Mum’s all in her exercise gear….double GROAN… looks like we’ve doing something healthy. Bummer, I was really looking forward to watching her eat scrumptious looking ice-cream and getting sympathy licks now and again.

Okay arrived at the destination and Seetha and I settle down in a corner to view the drama at hand. Mum and her mummy friends gather around, they spend a good fifteen minutes greeting each other, “You’ve lost so much weight, my goodness how do you do it?”..”Oh no not lost anything men, but you look like you’ve lost loads’. I can’t take anymore of this duplicity, and by the way all she did was have a baby, I really did all the hard work of arriving here, spending all that time growing and getting bigger, it was a herculous effort on my part, don’t know why Mum’s getting all the hard work.

After a series of sun salutations, cat stretches and downward facing dog exercises Mum and her gang look like the group of elephants from Jungle book, avert your eyes Seetha, someone’s going to break something with all this contortioning, I can’t look. Shall take a nap instead!

Expert Advice- What foods to introduce first

There are no hard and fast rules about which to introduce first, and it makes no difference to your baby in terms of ease of digestion. Some experts recommend starting with fruit first, because it's sweet, like breast milk. Others say that because humans have an innate preference for sweets, it makes sense to introduce vegetables before fruits, so that your baby will be more likely to accept them.

If you do start with veggies, your best bet is mild-flavored varieties like sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, peas, and green beans. Just remember that it might take ten tries for your baby to actually accept a new food, so don't give up!

Expert Advice – Car Seats

When a vehicle collides with another object - a tree, a wall or another moving vehicle, for example - it is stopped suddenly by the impact. However, anything not held down inside the vehicle will keep moving, and that includes the passengers.

Seatbelts are designed to hold you into the car and spread the destructive force of the impact over the more resilient parts of your body, increasing your chances of avoiding death or serious injury in a crash by up to 50 percent. There are three basic types of child car seats, each designed for different ages (and sizes) of children:

Rear-facing infant seats and convertible seats
Forward-facing child seats
Booster seats and backless boosters

Yoga

Yoga excercise is a very popular form of exercise for many pregnant women. There are both antenatal and postnatal yoga classes available for pregnant women.

Yoga classes can help develop stronger muscles in the stomach, back and pelvic floor. Yoga excersises improve a pregnant woman's core strength and helping to avoid some common problems that can occur both during and post pregnancy, such as backache, postural imbalances, low-energy levels and poor circulation.
