Couple of the week: Michelle & Jivan

Michelle Herft and Jivan Goonetilleke are married and are parents too. Michelle is a teacher by profession and enjoys drama and the arts. She also enjoys being a mom. Jivan is a lawyer by profession. He is also presently part of the coaching staff of the S. Thomas’ College senior rugby team. This week, they spill on ‘Couple of the Week’.

Michelle

When did you first meet and how long has it been since?
Jivan and I were in university together. I have known him since 2006.

What was the first thing about your partner that you were attracted to?
I guess his strikingly handsome features and his exuding confidence.

What do you think maintains a successful relationship for you both?
Jivan understands me and we have mutual respect for each other. He is very supportive of all my decisions and I am of his. We also make it a point to spend quality time with each other whenever time permits.

What is the best thing you like about your partner?
I admire him for how generous and caring he is. He will always go out of his way to help anyone and I just love that about him.

What is something you detest about your partner?
He is a little stubborn and is very set in his ways… He hates to admit it when he is wrong!

Jivan

When did you first meet and how long has it been since?
Well, I’ve been looking at her since 2003. Actually introduced myself to her in 2006.

What was the first thing about your partner that you were attracted to?
First thing?? I’d be lying if I said personality.

What do you think maintains a successful relationship for you both?
We’re too busy to fight. We go to the movies or binge on Nutella wraps and pizzas instead.

What is the best thing you like about your partner?
She stands by me through thick and thin… even when I’ve made the most outrageous of choices (even though she foresees the disaster in them).  She is also selfless, loving and caring. Almost unfair for a beautiful woman to have such qualities.

              
What is something you detest about your partner?
The fact that she is always right.

Describe your relationship in a word?
Wholesome.
