“We’ll sing in the sunshine.

We’ll laugh every day!”

Sang Imelda as she sat by her husband Mohan’s side in the car.

The couple were on their way to spend a weekend in Kandy.

“Fortunately,  we have no children so we can take off whenever we wish.”said Mohan with a smile, adding, “I know it was hard at first that we have no little ones but now we have adjusted to the situation.”

“I feel that we share more companionship than parents who often complain that children and their demands come first.”commented Imelda.

“That is because families put children first while I feel that the marriage relationship should come first.”said Mohan, adding, “I know that children can be very demanding and parents have to sacrifice a lot but the marriage is the mainstay of the family unit.”

“In Sri Lanka, or should I say in South Asia, the children come first for the couple often do not devote time to themselves.  Before the baby comes, the husband and wife should cement their marital relationship by spending time with each other and sharing household chores.”commented Imelda, adding, “After all, we have happy memories like this trip to Kandy.   If only couples build memories to fall back on when the difficult time with the baby comes, then they would truly be a happy family.”

“You don’t have to spend money on a trip outstation.  You can always sing in the shower and enjoy making bacon and eggs together for breakfast.  Or perhaps we can fry sausages and eat it with mashed potatoes.”said Mohan.

“You don’t have to spend a lot of money on buying sausages.  Just ‘Pol sambol”(coconut mixture with chillie) with bread can be good to start a harmonious day together!”suggested Imelda.

Let’s sing and have fun….
