(Lets face it kids are full of honesty, they say it as they see it. This is a new column written from the ‘HONEST’ observations from our children. It touches on all aspects of the process of growing up and how we as parents can improve ourselves from a child’s point of view).

It’s a Dog’s world out there

So the other day Dad comes home with a puppy. I see him getting out of the car with the cute bundle in his arms and I think to myself, get comfortable my child, snuggle more deeply into your blanket, find a thumb to suck on, left one today, call Teddy for all is about to break loose.

You see Mum hates dogs, she was badly mauled by a dog when she was child and has never got over her fear. I of course know everything about my Mummy dearest, she is my sun and my world revolves around her, especially since she comes equipped with milk.

Anyways I digress, Dad of course, after ten years of marriage knows squat. He hop, skips and jumps, like a lamb to slaughter, through the door, unable to contain his eagerness. Mum takes one look, her eyes swell to the size of saucers and the barrage of questions start to volley through the house. YOU brought a DOG home?..

Has it been vaccinated?.Whoose is it?. You never asked me?.It’s not staying here. Do you not realize we have a baby in the house?. Do you not remember I have ASTHAMA?. What are you going to do when it attacks the baby and rips its fingers off..WHAT WHAT?...You’ll end up with a child with NO fingers!!!!.Fine let your wife die from an asthma attacks and allow your child to be maimed. A DOG!!!!!!!!.

Wow, impressive, all this was done in a matter of two minutes, she only stopped to take a deep breath. In the momentary silence Big sister waddles in after watching Nemo, and says ‘I don’t want a dog, I want a fish’. Poor Dad, majority rules, I always side with mum on everything, maybe you can have one in your old age Dad, wait till you’re more grown up! Bye Bye doggy.

Expert Advice – Dog Attacks on Children
