The do-gooder is always there to give ear to your problems, willing to go out of the way to advice and then before long take advantage of their good deeds by beginning to manipulate the friend in need to dance to their tune. Ms. Goody who by this time knows all your inner secrets has now started whispering to others about the distress you are in.
Ms. Needy does not know that Ms. Goody is broadcasting her troubles to all and sundry and wonders why at social functions everybody is looking at her sympathetically and trying to avoid her at any cost.
Ms. Goody is thrilled that the so called friends are deserting Ms. Needy making her the only real friend around. Thus gaining more brownie points with Ms. Goody.
Recently Tootsie had a problem with her marriage and poured her heart out to her confidante Bobby. Bobby was full of sympathy and all ears to Tootsie who was happy to have Bobby as a friend and confidant as she did not want anyone to know that her marriage was on the rocks and her husband was having a rollicking affair with another woman.
Tootsie began suspecting her husband when he suddenly started staying away from home on the basis that he had to go out of town on work related matters.
At a function when one of her husband’s colleagues asked her after her husband she was taken by surprise that he did not seem to be aware of him having to work out of town.
Thereafter her suspicion grew and when she went through her husband’s cellular phone one day she found a whole lot of calls and texts to a number that was identified by the odd name Lulu.
She noted this number and she used to weep to her dear friend Bobby about all this. Bobby who used to be sympathetic towards her suddenly began to change her tune advising her that it would be best to go for a divorce and some form of a settlement rather than undergoing such indignity and torture.
The major part of the family’s wealth was brought in by Tootsie at the time of her marriage. Soon after her marriage she transferred all her properties to her husband and opened a joint bank account with him. When she sounded he husband about a divorce he denied that he was having an affair and said she was imagining all of this.
Tootsie who could not yet find out who this mysterious woman was continued to go through her husband’s personal belongings when she got a chance and once came across a receipt for a fancy bracelet with stones from a well-known Colombo jeweler.
It was Bobbie’s birthday and Tootsie insisted that she take her out for lunch on that day. There they were at a fancy restaurant when she noticed a new bracelet dangling on Bobby’s arm. It was then that she realized that her confidant was the tramp that her husband was sleeping with.
Tootsie did not need any further confirmation since the description in the receipt from the Jeweler that she found in her husband’s fitted the bracelet perfectly. Soon after Tootsie asked Bobby to accompany her to the ladies where she gave her two thundering slaps and walked out.
Tootsie thought of confronting her husband but decided against it for the moment as they had two kids. Bobby in the meantime may have informed Tootsie’s husband that the cat was out of the bag since he came home early that evening quiet as a mouse and has not worked late since then.
As for Bobby, she was kicked out of Tootsie’s life forever. Tootsie also learned that most do-gooders and confidants cannot be trusted and are the most dangerous people to have around you.
