Resortwear at Jetwing Blue
It is that time of the year when Ajai plans great things for the up-coming season of resort wear. This is the first four day resort wear show. On the first two days, 1 and 2 October, Brightspark will showcase their creative designs, six on each day. This event is to showcase the best of Sri Lanka’s new design talent in line with Colombo Fashion Week’s plan to guide and groom the next generation of designers, a decision made in 2013 when Colombo Fashion Week (CFW) celebrated 10 years. For CFW, the development of a new generation of designers is key and, with this in mind, they introduced the GEN-NEXT Award a couple of years ago.
The main show begins on 3rd October, where ten designers will display their latest resort collections. Fourth October will also take the same format. The planned lineup on 3rd October will be Bibi Russell from Bangladesh, Maus, Radhika, SPA Ceylon, Ramona, IndI, Koka, Catherine, and Deneth and Harare from the USA. On 4th October showcasing their clothes will be Sonali, Arugam Bay, Coco, Conscience, Nelun, F H Studio, Yaisisurie + CJS, Upeksha and Charini, all from Sri Lanka and from India,
Abraham & Thakore.
Three important international designers will show at this event. CFW loyalist and global ambassador Bibi Russell, who is also a UNESCO Ambassador and a global fashion icon, recognized and rewarded around the world, Abraham & Thakore, India’s best fashion export to the world (they are both celebrated and recognized and their design sensibility is a joy to watch and admire) and lastly Harare, a label by designer Caroline, who a fortnight ago showed at New York Fashion Week to an amazing reception.
In addition, two foreign chefs will be leading the Fashion + Food series of CFW Resort. Alain DuPont, a Michelin star chef from Paris and Kenneth Loke, a chef from Malaysia will create special menus that could be tasted at the Black Coral Restaurant and at Center Point at Jetwing Blue.
It will be a great weekend to look forward to and celebrate fashion at such a spectacular location, Jetwing Blue, Negombo. As always, one is assured that Ajai will have a couple of new tricks up his sleeve to further the fashion industry of Sri Lanka.
