Flitting around

It was one of those times when I had time in hand and could take advantage of the several invitations to run out of Colombo.

First was a party hosted generously by a husband and wife celebrating their special birthdays. The house was an old one resurrected to its former glory. The gathering of many in these tranquil surroundings that included plenty entertainment, good food and an abundance of beverages, and hanging out with a group of friends who were fun was an ideal way to spend a lazy Sunday. The warm weather was not noticed since everybody was having a great time.

From Hikkaduwa  I went on to Rock Villa, a Taru Villa property.  This six bedroom haven created by Nayantara, who is well known for her interiors and creating boutique hotels which offer that extra comfort was absolutely splendid. The property certainly is a gem of a place with the accommodation fitted with a comfortable bed and all the other necessities that made the stay pleasant. The food was delightful.  Catching up with Dalal who is visiting Sri Lanka after twelve years in the evening added to my enjoyable stay.  After a dip in the pool and a good night’s sleep I woke up to a healthy green juice and a super breakfast. I then headed home to repack and took off to Kalpitiya.

Dolphin Beach Hotel is one of my favourite spots in that area. Twelve rooms that are actually comfortable tents are situated in a secluded area. On arrival we were met by the new General Manager Dean Jelinek.  Here too I caught up with two ladies who I knew from yesteryear and had an absolute crazy time. The next morning we took off to watch the dolphins, a trip arranged by the hotel.  After a hearty breakfast we decided to head off to Wilpattu to enjoy some wild life.  It took us just an hour to get there on the wonderful roads.  In the Wilpattu National Park we were fortunate to see elephant, sambhur, deer and a huge bear and plenty of amazing birds.  Then back to Dolphin Beach Hotel where we all plunged into the pool and enjoyed a great dinner and a long chitchat.

The next day after breakfast we headed back home to Colombo with a break at Jetwing Blue for a delicious lunch. It was all in all a great few of days and what was nice was that wherever I was I was surrounded with fun people who were interesting to be with and with whom I could have great conversations. It is situations such as these that makes one feel what a wonderful world we live in. I would strongly recommend breaks such as these with light hearted people enjoying everything which this country has to offer rather than being around people who are negative and have so many issues and seem to carry baggage that they are reluctant to unload.
