Oh! Colombo

Shopping in a supermarket is no fun anymore as it used to be. This is due to the dear cost of the items on sale and it actually does well for your brains since one has to mentally calculate and total the purchases to make sure that there are sufficient funds in the wallet at the checkout counter.

Gone are the days for many who just threw in that odd snack or bit of dried fruit into the trolley, especially if they are imported items as the prices tend to be ridiculous.  I guess it is the consumer’s choice whether to buy or not. 

Then at the checkout counter the cashier attempts to flog the ecofriendly bags pricking one’s conscience to purchase one.  The purchaser learns a big lesson with the first purchase since if anything heavy is filled into the bag, ‘snap’ go the handles.

It would be nice if somebody introduces the pan mallas that were used in the past, which were strong and could be used for years on end. Unfortunately, it seems that the siri sir bag is indispensable to both vendors and consumers and has come to stay.
