Kalpitiya is the latest upcoming resort area in Sri Lanka. Makara Dolphin Resort has been around for several years and definitely a great place to spend a couple of restful days. The resort is rustic, eco-friendly and very comfortable. Its concept is that the rooms are individual tents with comfortable bedding and are en suite. Two of them are family tents that have two rooms.
If you wish to spend a relaxed holiday at Makara Dolphin Resort you can hang around your tent which also has a patio area with comfortable seating and also enjoy your meals in the privacy of your own tent. The meals are mostly seafood that is in abundance in the area with lots of vegetables from the Resort’s own vegetable patch.
One of the attributes at Makara Dolphin is that all its service are very personalized, simply due to Dean Jelinek, Resident Manager of the Resort, who is happy to offer you the best they have and goes out of his way to make you feel at home and comfortable.
Dean’s country of birth is Croatia. He has been in the service field for many years. To name a few of his accolades. He was once the personal assistant to Ivana Trump, was involved in restaurants and creating events, all in New York, as well as a florist. Dean was also responsible for branding high end restaurants to many Chefs in the caliber of Chef Charlie Palmer as well as organizing the openings of the Four Seasons and Mandalay Bay in Vegas.

In Croatia Dean had his own restaurant on the island of Hvar. Three years ago he came to Sri Lanka to visit a family who reside here and fell in love with the country. Now he is at Makara Dolphin Resort seeing to the comfort of its guests. At the Resort, Dean makes their own range of soaps, body wash, and conditioner. They also make mosquito repellent with citronella and many other products with lemongrass essential oil. In the near future they plan on putting out a variety in chocolate, lime and many other fragrances. Encouraging his staff and making the guests comfortable is Dean's aim.
The dolphin and whale season is generally from November to around April. However, they will organize excursions to the ruined cities, Wilpattu National Park, lagoon safaris, kite surfing etc., upon request. The Resort has a swimming pool and two very comfortable lounge areas and as a guest you are assured of all comfort, served with a touch of Dean and the warmth of the friendly staff.
