OH COLOMBO! By Koluu
Long week-ends are many in Sri Lanka and most people enjoy travelling out of Colombo visiting the many interesting, historical and educational destinations we have in this small island. In the recent past many new luxury and semi luxury hotels have popped up all over the Island. Some of them have got it right some not so but yet when it comes to these long holidays they are all quite booked up with merry holiday makers whether it is groups of friends or family.
I recall in my younger days our crowd of friends used to enjoy going to the larger resort hotels where there were loads of people and many activities happening. Now it seems we keep avoiding these larger resorts and searching for more quiet resorts where one does not actually bump into people we do or do not know. There is a wide choice of places available for these quiet getaways with that “Boutique Hotel Concept,” where some have worked out the concept well and whiles others have not. Amongst these we discovered a gem of a place down south in Ahangama called the Three by TPV.
The Three is a boutique hotel managed by three guys Thomas, Patrick and Vadim. Unlike other boutique hotels this is a place with a difference. The décor and interiors have that slight different look and very tastefully decorated. The place has eight rooms. Each room is almost one’s own little villa with comfortable beds and toilets in a garden setting.
The place is absolutely pristine clean and has a dining area situated in the center of the property. The food is of a very high quality with an extensive menu and yet the staff are happy to accommodate your food needs on early notice and if you are lucky Sunny will whip up an exquisite Japanese meal for you. Sunny is a long time guest who enjoys cooking his own cuisine and treating others.
Three has a great pool to dip into and cool off whenever one wishes and a lounge area where one can loll around and read a book or magazine and gaze across towards the ocean. The ocean is across the road if there is a need for walk on the beach or a dip in the ocean. I have to confess it is a while since I discovered a Boutique Hotel where I enjoyed my entire stay and would happily recommend it to anyone who wishes to have a peaceful weekend in pleasant surroundings and enjoy a good service and food. The entire property is designed by the three owners and certainly has upped the standards of boutique hotels down south and is certainly well worth a visit.
