La Rambla by Tasty Caterers has been completely revamped and now serves authentic Thai cuisine by Chef Papat Pachid. Located at 69, Hotel Road, Mount Lavinia, this cosy little restaurant offers an exciting gastronomic journey and boasts of being Mount Lavinia’s only authentic Thai restaurant.

A dinner was hosted recently by Kanthi Jayamaha to introduce this new concept. Invitees included friends, relations and a few people from the media. Here’s what we thought of our experience.

Ambience

This is a quaint little place with neat dining areas and a welcoming vibe to it. If you choose to sit out in the open air, that option is also available.

Food and Beverages

As we took our seats, we were served a welcome drink. I sipped on a lemongrass juice which was absolutely super and then I tried out the mint and lime juice which was also equally good.

For starters we were served a plate with small portions of five kinds of starters. This was a brilliant idea as unlike having one full portion, we could taste all these delectable items. There was a Deep Fried Fish Cake, Chicken Satay which was well marinated and grilled, then there was Prawn Toast which was deep fried and dusted with sesame seeds, Papaya Salad and Grilled Beef Salad. Each item I tried out tasted better than the previous. I loved the Prawn Toast and the Grilled Beef Salad which had a strong flavour of lemongrass. If you love your Thai Cuisine you will love it. The fresh Papaya Salad had a sweet and tangy taste and lots of crushed peanuts in it.

Then came the Tom Yum soup which was also super. It was not too hot and had the right amount of Thai herbs and flavour added.

The mains were also served like the starters, there were six small portions of different items plated so we could try out all these dishes. There was Chicken Green Curry which was very authentic and delicious, Prawn Choo Chee, Minced Chicken with aubergine which I really liked, Hot Butter Cuttlefish, Grilled Sea Bass and Vegetable Fried Rice. Each item had its unique flavour totally different to the other. The variety selected by Kanthi and the manner in which it was plated surely complemented each other.

For desserts we were served the Sticky Rice with Mango and Thai Coconut Jelly. The sticky rice tasted a lot like our milk rice with sugar added and the Jelly was something I had not tasted before.

Service

The service was great. All in all, if you are a fan of Thai cuisine this is a ‘must visit’ place.
