We made our way to the Colombo Fort Café to try out their ‘Summerlicious’ spread on a Friday afternoon. With their open kitchen and beautiful interior, it was the perfect setting to try out their special menu for the summer.

Ambience – 4.5/5

The manager Mr. Winslow was a fabulous host. He told us that every year during the months of July and August, they serve the ‘Summerlicious’ course. But every year and even between the two months the dishes change.

We tried their August spread. The staff, under the guidance of their head chef, prepares the food in front of you and serves it really quickly as well. They are also extremely friendly.

Friendliness of Staff – 5/5

We were first served with the beverage which was a Summer Sangria Jas (Rs.750). It was a perfect blend of red wine, brandy, triple sec and orange juice. It was delicious, refreshing and definitely helps to beat the heat but it was a little too strong for an early lunch.

We then tried the Watermelon, Orange and Feta Salad (Rs.650). It was really light and fresh and definitely the dish I enjoyed the most. The sweet watermelon with the sour oranges and bitter salad leaves topped with cheese really made it a perfect summer salad.

We then tried both main dishes on the menu. The Grilled Veggies with Mustard Vinaigrette (Rs.1200) and the Grilled Chicken with Pineapple Salsa and Quinoa (Rs.1450). The vegetarian dish was absolutely delicious. We really enjoyed the grilled veggies with the bread. However the grilled chicken was a little dry and we didn’t particularly enjoy the dressing either. The portions of both mains were quite small.

The dessert served was a Honey-Yogurt Panna Cotta (Rs.350). The panna cotta itself was too frozen in the middle but the flavour was nice and it was quite tasty. The fruit served with it was fresh, the mango in particular was sweet and delicious.

Food and Value for Money – 4/5
