Chitra Lane School Hosts ‘Kids on Stage’ In Celebration Of Their 50th Anniversary

Having inspired and nurtured children with special needs for almost five decades in Sri Lanka, the Chitra Lane School for Children with Special Needs will host their annual charity event of song, dance and fashion on the 8th of October 2016 from 7:00 pm onwards at the Bishops College Auditorium. 

In line with their 50th anniversary celebrations this year, ‘Kids on Stage’- the fundraiser will feature students of the school and artists such as; Samitha Mudunkotuwa, Krishan Maheson, Lanthra Perera (Doctor), Tanuja Perera, Natasha Jayasuriya (Deanna School of Dancing), MB Imran (Imzy’s Dance Loft), Embark and Nilanka Silva (La Sari) along with ‘The De Lanerolle Brothers’ and a Guest Appearance by Otara Gunewardene, who will showcase their talents in support of the students to help showcase their talents. The event will be choreographed by Brian Kerkoven.

Ours has been a challenging journey over the years, which could not have been undertaken without the kind support of many who have helped us in so many ways. We are extremely grateful to the artists and our sponsors for volunteering their efforts in making this event a reality.”

About Chitra Lane School: 

The Chitra Lane School for children with special needs, was founded in 1967 when 3 caring volunteers took it upon themselves to nurture and care for two children with special needs. The school initially started as a day school for children with special needs and has grown to reach over 1000 children and young adults across Sri Lanka providing much needed facilities for the early detection and intervention of disabilities. They have a comprehensive and well-structured training programme for children with special needs, which have gained recognition locally as well as internationally. 

The Children’s Resource Centre provides a comprehensive range of services all under one roof including educational skills, evaluations; individualized remedial education; speech and language development; physiotherapy. Hydrotherapy; medical clinics; parent counseling and training; vocational and life skills development for young adults with special needs. The Chitra Lane Children’s Resource Centre also collaborates with Universities, NGO’s, schools, and other professionals in similar fields in conducting staff training and awareness programmes through the Chitra Lane Academy.
