You are considered the “most elegant batsman of his generation”. What was your secret?
My wife Anushka always says it was talent but really it was hard work, commitment, passion and self-belief .
 
How were you as a kid?
Adventurous
 
What keeps you busy today?
Work, spending time with my family and travelling.  All of which I enjoy very much.
 
Your thoughts on T20 this year?
At the time of the interview, Sri Lanka had qualified to be in the finals. My wish and prayer is that they will bring the championship trophy home. This would be a fitting send off for Mahela and Sanga two cricketers I am really fond of.
 
Tell me about cricket at the time you were playing?
SL cricket started as an amateur sport and during my time it was just turning semiprofessional. Now that it is recognised as a professional sport, we must encourage and support the future generation to cope with demands, guiding them through our experiences.
 
One thing you can never forget about the World Cup back in 96?
How with great team spirit we were able to conquer the world, by beating one of the best teams the world has seen.
 
Your love for cars and cake .. how is that going?
My love has shifted direction with age, from cars to family and cake to Japanese food.
 
Do you believe in keeping in touch with friends?  
Very much so
 
Tell me a little bit about your family?
I have a loving wife, thoughtful daughter Tiana and three lovable and fun loving boys Sampras, Akira and Yanik.
 
Favourite hangout spot?
London, so much so that my wife calls me a Londoner.
 
Your most memorable moments in cricket?  
Being a part of Sri Lanka’s first ever test victory, both in SL and overseas.
Being a part of the winning ‘96 World Cup team

I feel we have a great future as I see more talent in junior cricket here than elsewhere in the world. It’s up to us to guide and nurture this talent.

    Ara is a genius cricketer the world has ever seen and has faced the fastest of speed bowling from his induction to cricket. A gentleman and captain would like to have, he even allowed Arjuna to cross the 5000 runs by any Sri Lankan test cricketer
