Today on WTF, I broke my diet to enjoy some Italian bliss, and that’s a good thin crust pizza with some good company. A warm welcoming place with friendly service is what is taken for granted when you walk into Giovanni's! A bunch of funny guys work there to serve up the pizza and you will end up wanting more. 

The pizza range is simple, and they keep it simple too! There are two options for the ones who love only seafood! Vegetarians have their share too, with my ever favourite 4 Cheese Pizza. This 20-item menu revolves around classic Italian preparations. You'll find the entire menu written out on a blackboard at the entrance. When you pay, you are a happy man, as their portions are large, and toppings are lavish. 

We chose three of the most popular pizzas on the menu, for us to review and try:

Salvage Pizza 

You know me, I love to add a twist to all my WTF episodes, and we did the WTF PATTA PIZZA. So I don’t always cook, but when I do, I go BIG! 

These ingredients went into the WTF PATTA PIZZA 

1. Nadi's Masala Chicken 
2. Green Chillie
3. Fresh Tomato 
4. Artichoke
5. Scamorza cheese 
6. Mozzarella 
7. Coriander leaves 
8. Chillie flakes 

And now it's on the blackboard, and please do go and order the WTF Patta Pizza, priced at 1400. I spoke to the owner Dimuthu Gamage, who is always with a smile on his face. 

“I’m telling you that clay oven is like a sauna.” 

“I wanted to bring my true experience in Italy to Sri Lanka and give something truly authentic for people to enjoy!” 

Danu : How's it like being a single dad? 

Dimuthu : It’s busy, and I have to give my entire morning and day for them. That’s why I start the restaurant from 6pm to 11pm. I drop them at school, and then do my shopping for the day, and then run to be with them before I get to the pizzeria. 

Danu : Do they enjoy pizza? 

Dimuthu : It’s funny, but true, they don’t like cheese, so I make pizza with no cheese for them! 

Giovanni’s remains quite a small place. You have to make your order downstairs and go and sit either on the steps to the entrance or upstairs! The space upstairs is nice and comfy place, and is actually good for a date on weekdays. They can accommodate 20 people comfortably. If not, like me, just use the steps at the entrance and enjoy the pizza! 

On weekdays, Dimuthu only plans for 50 pizzas, so if the pizza dough ends by around 8.30om, he closes down, and runs back to his kids! Very soon, this talented man hopes to start a pasta restaurant too with an Italian twist! 

So while I was done making the WTF Patta Pizza, I offered it to a few who were there. I met Benedicta from France, who has stopped by for the first time, and has heard great things about the place, and enjoyed my Patta Pizza, and Shirmal who has always been a fan, and was suspicious as to what I put in it, but everyone liked it, so I’m sure you will too!
