Baby Reindeer (Netflix)

We're kicking things off with a show that defied expectations: Baby Reindeer. We dove into Baby Reindeer on a whim, and wow, were we surprised! Buckle up, because this dark dramedy isn't your typical binge-watch.

"Baby Reindeer" explores a complex and disturbing relationship. Writer and performer Richard Gadd confronts a harrowing experience from his past, delving into the psychological impact of stalking and trauma. It delves into raw vulnerability with a depth that's both uncomfortable and strangely captivating. The main character confronts a fear we all share: the fear of looking bad. But instead of shying away, they confront it head-on, sharing uncomfortable truths and anxieties that resonate deeply.

We won't spoil anything, but let's just say Baby Reindeer is a powerful exploration of the human condition. It's not a light watch, but it's one that will stay with you long after the credits roll.

Upload (Amazon Prime)

Ever considered the afterlife? This hidden gem isn't a brand new release, but it's a show that deserves a second look – Upload on Amazon Prime.

This sci-fi comedy takes place in a future where technology allows people to upload their consciousness into a luxurious virtual afterlife.  We follow Nathan Brown, a young app developer who finds himself in a digital paradise called "Lakeview" after a car accident.  At first, Nathan is excited about the endless possibilities of his new existence. But as he explores Lakeview, he uncovers a hidden social hierarchy and starts to suspect there's more to his death than meets the eye.

Upload is a captivating blend of humour, social commentary, and a touch of mystery. It explores the complexities of death, technology, and even love across a physical divide. With its unique premise and engaging characters,  Upload is a show that will keep you hooked until the very end.

Alice in Borderland (Netflix)

Remember that survival drama with deadly games that took over the world in 2021? Well, there was another one before it – Alice in Borderland on Netflix! Released in December 2020, it reentered discourse around the same time as "Squid Game," making it a hidden gem worth checking out, even if it's not brand new.

This Japanese sci-fi series throws a group of restless friends, led by the adventurous Arisu, into a terrifying situation. They find themselves inexplicably transported to a deserted Tokyo, but this isn't a post-apocalyptic wasteland – it's a twisted playground. To survive, Arisu and his buddies are forced to participate in a series of dangerous games, each designated by a playing card.  The higher the card, the deadlier the challenge, with losing resulting in a horrifying laser beam execution.

Alice in Borderland is a captivating blend of genres. It's a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing, a high-stakes survival drama where every decision could be your last, and an action-adventure that throws you headfirst into the fight for life.  As Arisu and his companions navigate these deadly games, they not only fight for survival but also try to unravel the mystery behind this twisted world.

This isn't just about survival; it's about forming alliances and uncovering the truth. Who created these games? Why are they trapped? Alice in Borderland offers a thrilling premise, a complex world, and enough suspense to keep you glued to your screen! We preferred this over Squid Game.
