This festival, hosted by Courtyard by Marriott Colombo, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Colombo and Turkish Airlines, was inaugurated during a spectacular dinner. The event welcomed dignitaries, diplomats, ministers, parliament members, ambassadors, well-wishers, and media to partake in a celebration of Turkish gastronomy and cultural exchange.
The Türkiye Food Festival represents more than just a culinary event; it signifies the enduring diplomatic ties between Türkiye and Sri Lanka. Elton Hurtis, the General Manager of Courtyard by Marriott Colombo, R. Demet Şekercioğlu, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Sri Lanka, and Fatih Bozkurt, Country Director for Turkish Airlines - Sri Lanka & Maldives, graced the occasion with their presence and addressed the attendees. Their speeches underscored the collaborative spirit within the hospitality sector and the strong partnership between the two nations.
From September 15th to 23rd, 2023, Colombo will be immersed in the vibrant flavors of Türkiye. Two Guest Chefs, Volkan Gür and Eren Barishan, flown in from JW Marriott Hotel Istanbul Marmara Sea, are set to dazzle the taste buds of Sri Lankans with an authentic Turkish culinary experience.
Chefs Volkan Gür and Eren Barishan have masterfully curated an extensive buffet that showcases the intricate flavors of Türkiye. Guests can indulge in mouthwatering tas kabab, fragrant pilaf, Turkish sakşuka, succulent lamb chops, tantalizing mezes, and a plethora of signature dishes. Chef Volkan Gür expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I'm thrilled to be in Sri Lanka, sharing the vibrant flavors of Türkiye. Our Turkish Food Festival promises to be a delightful journey filled with cherished dishes, ensuring a rich cultural exchange." Guests will have the opportunity to savor delicious baklava, flaky pastries, and more, all while delving into the cultural significance of these delightful flavors.
As part of the festival's exciting lineup, an exquisite Turkish Tea Party was hosted on September 17, 2023, from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, priced at LKR 5,500 nett per person. This event offered a unique perspective on Turkish tea culture. For those seeking a more immersive experience, an exclusive Chef's Table, led by Chef Volkan Gür, took place on September 18th and 19th, 2023.
The Türkiye Food Festival unfolds at the Beira Kitchen within Courtyard by Marriott Colombo. The dinner buffet is available at Rs. 9,500 nett per person and can be savored between 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
