Travelling for leisure either locally or internationally is always fun. You see and experience things, meet wonderful locals and tourists along the way, get an adrenaline rush or manage to unwind successfully. While solo travel is steadily gaining in traction, most people still like travelling with others. This is all well and good, unless of course your travel buddies suck. The best kinds of travel groups will comprise a healthy mix of the best kinds. This makes the bad apples a little more tolerable. Here are the best and the worst kinds of people to travel with.

(P.S. If you identify yourself with one or more of the “worst” types, please do us all a favour and uninvite yourself).

The Best

The come-what-may types

These kinds of people will take things in stride - the good and especially the bad - instead of sulking and making it unpleasant and annoying for everyone. Most often than not, they will even cheer the rest on and remind them that a good time can be had despite the few cons and hurdles.

The planners

Spontaneous trips are great. But what do you do when you get to a location with no clear plans or indication as to what you intend to do? As long as they are not obsessive in their tendencies, these people will make sure you get the best out of your trip while you're there.

The entertainers

Stuck in transit for ages? Delayed flights? A night with no real plans? Worry not, because the entertainer will make sure you're never bored. Whether it's fun conversation or mysteriously whipping up a stack of cards or board games, the entertainer will make sure you all have a great time!

The thoughtful ones

Always prepared for any eventuality, the thoughtful ones will always come in useful because they will have thought of scenarios you may not have even considered. From allergy medication to sunscreen, they will always have a miscellany of items that will help save the day.

The Worst

The fussy ones and the complainers

When on holiday, things may go wrong. The weather may not cooperate, national parks may be closed off, the hotel may have a few shortcomings. The complainers take it all as a personal attack on their enjoyment of the holiday and lash out and whine and complain every chance they get. Nevermind that you aren't accountable for unexpected bad weather.

The ones who take jokes too far

Jokes and pranks are great. As long as they are controlled and don't cause emotional or physical distress to anyone. When you're on holiday especially, the last thing you need is someone's idea of a joke to be pushing you off the edge of a cliff or into a river. These kinds of jokes and pranks are never funny and instead are dangerous and can easily turn the holiday sour.

The selfish ones

This kind of person looks out for themselves and themselves only. While the rest of you many be willing to make small sacrifices so that you all have a good time, the selfish person is not likely to cooperate. However, they will probably still expect you to! After all, their own comfort and convenience will always come first.
