ORU Seafood Restaurant and Bar is Amari Galle's latest addition to its wonderful array of inhouse restaurants. Located on the breathtaking sandy shores of the Southcoast, it is an open air dining venue that offers its customers an experience of a lifetime.

Ambience

The comfortable seating arrangement on the beach which gives a spectacular view of the Indian Ocean, combined with the cooling sea breeze provides the ideal ambience to just kickback, relax and enjoy a divine evening of good food, drinks and excellent music. Their innovative concept of a “Bar in a Boat” which offers any drink of your choice, and also their dimly lit lanterns certainly amplifies this tranquil aura making this the perfect destination for a romantic dinner or a relaxing night out.

Food

ORU offers an exceptional variety of flavours from Sri Lanka and around the world, using the
highest quality local ingredients. The seafood is handpicked daily, fresh from local markets.

The Catch of the day is displayed in full view for the customers and the A` la carte menu offers an array of delectable starters, mains and desserts.

The starter we were served was  “Foie gras Mussel Parfait” which was a cardamon enhanced roasted butternut squash with Foie Gras topped with mussels.

This was followed by Seared scallops served with spring onion and carrot puree along with a Cumin enhanced lobster chowder. The scallops were fresh, stuffed with spinach and topped with caviar. It was a perfect teaser to the Palate which was then riled up for the cuisine that was to follow.

The Chowder had a very creamy texture and it successfully brought out the rich and meaty taste of the Lobster.

The highlight of the night however were the main dishes. ORU provides the opportunity for the customers to not only  choose their preference from the display of freshly caught fish but to also dictate how they want it made. Chef Sampath Meddawattege and his talented team then proceeds to make the dish by adding a touch of their own twist to it as well, to plate before you a gastronomical delight!

We opted to go for Crab, Lobster, prawns and seer fish.

The crab tasted extremely fresh and had been cooked to perfection. They had also added a curry sauce and spices which made it pretty hot but the taste was beyond amazing!

The Lobster was equally good! The meat was creamy and the Chef had introduced a good balance of herbs and seasoning so as not to overpower the flavour of the meat but to amplify it. It was most certainly a culinary delight!

The Seer was also pretty good but nothing too exceptional. The prawns however were to die for! They were big, fresh, juicy and full of mouthwatering flavour. I loved it!

Dessert included a Passion Fruit and Jelly Crystal Velvet Cake.

The cake had great texture, was really soft and quite literally melted in my mouth. The flavour of passion fruit wasn't too overpowering but had just the right amount which I felt was commendable.

The dinner had quite the sweet ending, with them offering us Coffee and Homemade Chocolate which tasted fantastic!

All in all, this is a great Restaurant that is certainly worth visiting if you are ever in galle. With the dramatic stage set for splendid sunsets and mouth watering fresh seafood, along with a wide selection of beverages, this is definitely a place to enjoy truly memorable moments!
