Dottie’s English Tea Room is a very recently opened typical English Tea Room. From the elegant fabric featuring vintage prints of roses to the teapot, it’s all so very authentic, classic and vintage English.

Ambience (4/5 stars)

Everything that was there had been carefully handpicked with utmost care and shipped from England.  When you walk into this little house down Rosmead place, you feel the instant warmth in the tastefully decorated interior with soft colours that are soothing to the eyes. There’s a little pond with some fish swimming around and lots of plants which also complement the calm ambience.  The table cloths are of white lace and the tables are laid out with beautiful ceramic and glass trinkets. The pastel coloured napkins are shaped into roses and are tucked into the tea cups. Shades of pink and roses are all around. It’s a picture of beauty and elegance.

Food (4/5 stars)

We tasted their English Afternoon Tea (Rs. 1400/-) which was served on a three tier cake stand. One layer had open sandwiches, the next layer had tiny little cakes and the top had two scones. The sandwiches with the Chicken Coronation, Tuna Mayo with green chillie and Cream cheese were absolutely delicious. The chicken was my favourite. The cucumber one was slightly dry. The cakes were also really yummy. The tiny little items on the second layer were a Lemon Drizzle Cake with Passion fruit topping and a Double Chocolate Brownie. The Earl’s Grey Fruit infused scones were accompanied with cream and jam.

You can order the open sandwiches separately and it would be Rs. 495/- for a portion of four. If you order the scones separately, it would be Rs. 350/- per portion of two scones. A variety of cakes are also available depending on what is baked each day.

The signature item of Dottie’s Tea Room is the Pink Tea (Rs. 350/- bucks a pot, serves two cups).  It is literally pink! It is usually served with dried rose buds which are supposed to be dipped into the tea to give it that rosy after taste, to go with the whole vintage rose theme. But when we visited they had run out of the rose buds. Nevertheless the Pink Tea was exotic.

Service (4/5 stars)

Lisa the British lady who runs this place with her team makes sure that everyone who walks in are made happy and comfortable. The service is prompt and efficient.

Parking

There are only a few parking slots, but it’s enough given that this is not a place that can be too crowded.

During the weekends they serve a typically English breakfast (Rs 1200/-).  You can have Pork, Chicken or Vegetarian.
