How do our food experts cook and eat? Husband and Wife food bloggers and entrepreneurs Sanu and Nishu Gunawardana takes our Q&A!

1. What’s the story behind your food blog ‘foodieslanka’?
Sanu: It started as a passion for food, people and culture after travelling around the world. I'm a good eater and food photographer, and my wife is a very good writer.
Nishu: Essentially, he loves to eat and I love to write!

2. Similar or opposite taste in food?
Nishu: Totally opposite!
Sanu:  But we do have similar standards when it comes to the preparation of the food.

3. Sweet or Savoury?
Nishu: Sweet – I have dessert before mains!
Sanu: Savoury all the way, because my wife dominates the sweet category.

4. What was your favourite childhood meal?
Nishu: Nana's Aggala, Aunty D's Custard, Dad's Beef Curry and Mum's Meatball Toasties.
Sanu: Half a pound of good Achchu Paan and plate full of Parippu, which I had daily in school. I still crave for it on and off. Sometimes I still eat it when I go for my son's school meetings.

5. Make a meal with Rs. 500?
Nishu: Mani Pittu with Pol Kiri, Beef Curry and Lunu Miris with Thambili.
Sanu: Black Pepper Pork curry with Pol Sambol and Steamed Rice/Roast Paan with a fresh Lime juice with Ginger.

6. Your dream dinner-party guests?
Nishu: Reynold Poer and J.K Rowling. I want him to make his signature Snitch and discuss Harry Potter with both of them.
Sanu: Gordon Ramsay and Richard Branson, so I can have a good meal with a discussion on insight into food and the business world.

7. Your bad day comfort food?
Nishu: Eclairs
Sanu: A good heavy Biriyani to take all the other heaviness away.

8. Your last day on earth, where are you and what are you eating?
Nishu: Home, eating my Chocolate Biscuit Pudding
Sanu: Home, cooking a good Italian meal for my family.

9. What’s a meal you’d make to impress each other?
Nishu: Chocolate Biscuit Pudding! It worked 6 years ago!
Sanu: An Italian pasta with a touch of Sri Lankan curry flavour, mixed with Chilli Beef Salami strips and Mozzarella cheese…with a red rose on the side.

10. What does it take for you to give a 10/10 on a dining experience?
Nishu: Attention to detail!
Sanu: Ambiance, location, taste and especially the service. No matter how good the taste is, if the service is not up to standard the taste is forgotten before you walk out of the door.

11. The most adventurous food you’ve eaten?
Nishu: Er, not sure if you can consider it food but Nick Bredenkamp at Wild Coast tricked us into eating deer droppings!
Sanu: Having a Sri Lankan and Western mix high tea on top of a mountain after a risky mountain hike at Ahaspokuna by Eco Team.

12. Your favourite odd food pairing?
Nishu: Marmite and Sugar Toasties.
Sanu: Deep Fried Snails with Cheese spread filling.

13. A dish you’d love to relive for the first time?
Nishu: Our friends Josh's Brownie Cake and Amanda's Salted Caramel Mini Cheesecakes
Sanu: Roti Canai with Mutton Curry and some Sweet Pork Steamed Buns from Malaysia.

14. It's 2050 – what are you both doing?
Nishu: Eating, travelling and telling my Grandkids that they are boring compared to Nana and Papa who ate anything and everything!
Sanu: Traveling and experiencing food while enjoying different cultures which will be very rare at the time. Also spreading love to people!
