If you remember the year 1969, then surely the term ‘Woodstock’ is nothing strange to you. The rock music festival held in August 1969 in Bethel, New York was dubbed to be the most famous rock concert to have ever been held up to date.
46 years since this iconic concert festival you now have the chance to relive it right here in Sri Lanka this September.
Etisalat Sri Lanka in partnership with JC Entertainments has announced the launch of the first ever Woodstock Colombo 2015. Upon the suggestion of Jerome Speldewinde, Woodstock Colombo is created and organized by JC Entertainments along with music business professional Rajitha Rupasinghe of Misty.

In all attempts to recreate the original festival, Woodstock Colombo will be including the original Woodstock music festival lineup featuring Joe Cocker, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Janis Joplin, Santana and Ravi Shankar performed live by over 30 of Sri Lanka’s most talented musicians such as Rattlesnake, FLAME, Mintaka, Jerome Spedewinde band featuring Shafi, Kamal Perera, Glenn Terry, Pradeep Ratnayake, Rajitha (MISTY) and many more.
In our interview with the organisers, Jehan of JC Entertainments talks about his expectations for Woodstock Colombo, “On a personal level I want to reinvent and create awareness about that era. Hopefully, over time, I want to make Sri Lanka heard around that world. I want people to know that such a festival is taking place in our country”.
Jehan Canagaratne
Rajitha, coordinating the music and bands, shared about the difficult aspect of organising a concert such as this; “The late 60’s was a remarkable era for musicians and music lovers so it’s very challenging to go by the music and the artists. Quite an uphill task!”
Proceedings from the concert will be given to two deserving charities - the Sunera Foundation that works towards enhancing the lives of differently abled young persons in Sri Lanka as well as towards the construction of well-equipped, secure and easily accessable classrooms for the Primary School of Chundikuli Girls’ School in Jaffna.
Woodstock Colombo is a great opportunity to revive an era that made music history. Get transported back to a time where everything was about good music and making great memories. Here’s a concert for you to sit back, listen to some great music and relive an era that is worth remembering.
The concert will be held on Saturday, September 26 at the CR & FC Grounds commencing from 4pm to 11pm. Tickets are priced Rs. 1500 and are available at the Etisalat Flagship Store in Colombo 3, WTC, CR & FC, Harpo’s, JC Entertainments and tickets.lk.
