Etisalat Lanka brings Woodstock to Colombo
Famed local artists come together to celebrate and honor the iconic music festival of 1969.
Etisalat Lanka in partnership with JC Entertainments is coming together to launch the first ever Woodstock Colombo 2015. The event will bring together Sri Lanka’s most renowned and talented musicians to perform on one stage at the unique music festival scheduled to be held on Saturday, September 26 at the CR & FC Grounds commencing from 4pm to 11pm.
Woodstock Colombo aims to celebrate the enduring legacy of the most famous music festival, the globally renowned Woodstock Music Festival held in Bethel, New York in 1969, drawing a crowd of 500,000 over the 4-day festival. Recognized as the genesis of music festival culture, the original music line-up included Joe Cocker, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Janis Joplin, Santana, Ravi Shankar and many more.
Woodstock Colombo 2015, to be held as an annual event, will consist of selected musicians from the original music line up of the Woodstock Festival performed live by over 30 of Sri Lanka’s most talented musicians such as Rattlesnake, Flame, Mintaka, Jerome Speldewinde Band featuring Shafi, Kamal Perera, Glen Terry, Jerome Speldewinde, Pradeep Ratnayaka, Rajitha (MISTY), Thilak Dias, CJ (Chris Dhason), Terry Bertus, Upula Madusanka, Lelum Ratnayake, Vibes (Hikka Drummers), Primal Liyanage, Naushad, Anne J and more. The event aims to conserve the true value and nostalgia of 1969, uniting people in a message of peace, love, openness and cultural expression catering to the bygone era of the ‘Woodstock Generation’.
Total proceeds from the event will go to the Western Musicians Association Sri Lanka which contributes towards the development of Sri Lanka’s most promising musicians as well as the Sunera Foundation.
Tickets will be on sale from September 12 onwards at the Etisalat Flagship Store in Colombo 3 and WTC, CR & FC, Harpo’s and JC Entertainments.
