Bands are known to be a fun family to be a part of and earlier this week I got a full dose of it while seated with the  members of “The At Last Project” at the In On The Green where they perform every Friday. The group certainly came out as a tripped out family not worrying to take the mick out of each other as soon as the opportunity arose during the interview. Check out their story and how they find their latest gig.

What brought you together as a band?

“Bloody hell” well this is going to take some time but in a nutshell Dilan and Naomi started off as a two piece band and Chandru, Dinesh and Roshan had a different 3 piece thing going on but then we decided to bring the two together and form at full band but at In On The Green we go as a 3 piece outfit. As for our roots, Dilan won TNL Onstage in 2004, Chandru has been in different bands such as Taunt, Whirlwind and the Slipping Chairs. Naomi started with Elixir and then bumped into Dilan and now we are a happy family.

Tell me about the genre of music you guys play?

We all have different genres of music that we prefer. Naomi is influenced by blues and RnB, Chandru likes alternative stuff and Dilan is heavily influenced by reggae and alternative so the sound that comes out is more of a fusion which makes our sound unique.

How did you land the gig at In On The Green?

We were looking for a couple of places to play at and then when we heard that the guy who plays here normally on Friday was moving out, we sent over our portfolio and the rest as they say is history!

What's some of the most interesting experiences you have had at IOG?

We love the crowd here! You get people from different walks of life and sometime we have friends who come and jam with us and then the requests are some of the best things that happen while playing and then of course there is Dilan’s ability to turn any song into reggae!

Your thoughts on the music scene in Sri Lanka?

There is some amazing talent out there but musicians need to be respected for who they are. The culture of “playing for the exposure” has to stop. They need to be given the chance to perform their own originals and the requests for “Hotel California" and "Summer of 69" have to stop! Other than that we feel that the talent out there is amazing!
