A star studded evening with the De Lanerolle brothers is all set to take purple hue on the first of June at 7.30 p.m. at the Water’s Edge Ballroom. The Past Pupil’s Association of Bishop’s College promise a “festive, entertaining… and relaxed evening” with the harmonious tunes of Rohan and Ishan De Lanerolle.

The Association collaborates with the De Lanerolle brothers for the first time with “Purple Edition”; noteworthy mention made of the numerous roots the brothers share in the annals of the college. The evening’s line up of performances will bring to limelight musical talent of gifted Past Pupils Shanuki De Alwis, Safra Deen and Dmitri Gunatilake renowned locally for their prowess on stage. The performance of the Old Girls’ Orchestra will precede an invigorating, purple-hued musical evening.

“Purple Edition” features internationally renowned duo Rohan and Ishan De Lanerolle who have together created a significant hallmark in the
local and international music industry with their unique renditions of all-time hits of eminent musicians and diverse genres, from the 60’s to the 90’s. The duo commonly known as the “De Lanerolle Brothers” have swept audiences off their feet at concerts in the great halls of Europe and the United Kingdom.

The brothers have also sung on invitation in numerous concert halls in the United States of America, at Christmas Concerts in cathedrals across Asia and a three-city concert tour in India in collaboration with versatile and internationally acclaimed Pianist Rohan De Silva. The duo took spotlight for being the first native singers to perform the opening act for a concert of four time Grammy Award winner, Olivia Newton John.

The De Lanerolle Brothers are also the proud owners of their own brand of specialized tea. The brothers have taken Sri Lanka global through this venture too, being the only brand of tea from Sri Lanka served at Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in London, 2012.

In collaboration with former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Kumar Sangakkara, the brothers put together a recital with all proceeds towards “Bikes for life” a venture to provide a mode of transport to children in remote villages spearheaded by Sangakkara and the School for the Deaf and Blind supported by the brothers. Rohan and Ishan have joined other musicians and artists towards creating awareness and collecting funds for cancer victims, trauma victims and prisoners’ children. It is this note of sensitivity to the predicament of unsung social strata in the song of the duo that makes it heartwarming.

To add to the ambience of the evening, the organizers have specified dress code with a touch of purple to an outfit of your choice.

The Gold Sponsor for “Purple Edition” is Access Engineering and Standard Chartered Bank, Seylan Bank and Dulux Silver Sponsors. Daily FT, Sunday Times and Daily Mirror, are the evening’s Print Media Sponsors and Real Radio, the official Electronic Media Sponsor.  Tickets are priced at Rs. 5000 (inclusive of dinner) and are available at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.
