Pestering Annie, a children’s book written by Marianne Johnpillai and illustrated by Irushi Tennekoon was launched on Saturday 2nd of July. The story essentially revolves around a bored boy who conjures up a neat method of amusing himself. This is the first official venture in to children’s literature for both author and illustrator.
The events of the launch included a fun warm up dance for both kids and adults, a reminiscence of a few songs Mrs Johnpillai’s father favoured, a reading of the book, poetry (written by Marianne) recitation and more singing.
Those in the audience had no choice but to be in high spirits which such jovial entertainment; an evening that clearly represented the book.
Stealing her for few moments, Mrs. Johnpillai explained that her choice to create stories for kids and not grownups is simply because she loves children. Having three of her own has taught her to be a story teller and great performer for little ones. She’s also an active social worker who assists in various projects engaged to uplift the underprivileged.
Using her gift and heart, Marianne will use all proceeds of Pestering Annie to help in the education, health and nutrition of poor children.
