Veteran musician Patrick Denipitiya passed away in Canada yesterday at the age of 78, family sources said.
In a career spanning more than five decades Patrick has contributed immensely especially towards the Sinhala cinema as the fastest music notations writer in which capacity he served in more than 200 film projects.
The old Benedictine who sat at the feet of Maestro Sunil Santha to learn his first lessons in music, later rose to become a talented musician composing several popular songs like Udarata Menike Manahara Kandurata Thilake, Sandawata Rantharu, Piyumehi Peni Bothi, Punsanda Hinehenne, Sihina Lowe Mihira Mewu Malee, Jothi’s Umayanganiyo and hundreds of others.
He was the music director of movies such as ‘Senakeliya’ and ‘Loka Horu’. He had also served at the Lake House Circulation Department for 27 years.
His sons Primus and Mahesh have made a name for themselves as talented musicians.
His funeral will be held in Canada, Mahesh told Impulse.

He provided music in all music events and we enjoyed the time we did not have TVs then.

Patrick and his combo backed the late C.T.Fernando in almost all his songs.Thank God his two sons have also taken to music.Condolenses to the family members. May his soul rest in peace.
