With their last production three years ago, the Senior Choir of Bishop's College is back with a concert to take you down a musical memory lane. What initially started out as an average choir day has now turned to a full-grown fundraiser concert in which part of the proceedings would be given in charity to the Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation.
‘Nostalgia’ is a concert that’s aimed to give the audience an idea of the music progression from the 60’s to nowadays. The one hour and fifteen minute show will feature a set list of both English and Sinhalese music that is specially arranged to suit female vocals. Joined together by choirs from Royal College, Wesley College and the Old Boys Choir of St. Benedict’s, this show will feature the likes of the Beatles ‘Penny Lane’, Jackson 5’s ‘I want you back’, Eric Clapton’s ‘Tears in Heaven’ and a few Taylor Swift numbers among others.
The choir is backed by a live band with Gamith Illandara at rhythm guitar, Previn Wirekoon at drums, Savini Chandrasignhe on piano, Malitha Wimalasuriya playing bass and Sheahan Devadoss at lead guitar. The Sinhala music set list is composed and directed by Kavishka Fernando, a past chorister of Bishop’s College.
At the rehearsal for the show, Choir Director Denham Pereira had this to say, “This committee has worked really hard for this concert. They’ve raised all the funds and did all the organizing. We just began rehearsals in June and they’ve worked so hard to get to where they are now”
When asked, Choir leader, Mithma Dematanpitiya described Nostalgia ’15 as a ‘concert for the old generation and the new generation. We have something for everyone! You can come, sit back and sing along with us’.
The show is set to happen on September 23 from 7.00 pm onwards at the Bishops College Auditorium. Tickets are priced at Rs. 1000, Rs. 750 and Rs. 500 (balcony) and is available at the main gate of the school and at the Bishops College Auditorium.
