Musicmatters is a creative music school for children. Currently we have around 100 students. Our mission is to provide an enjoyable environment in which students are given the skills to become creative musicians and tomorrow's appreciative audiences.
Musicmatters was established in 2010 by Sumudi and Pianist Eshantha Peiris. Eshantha Peiris, with a masters in Piano performance from New York University, is one of the most successful concert pianists of the current generation. I myself have a doctorate in music, in the field of ethnomusicology, and am a trained professional jazz drummer.
Our program offers a combination of classes consisting of an individual practical class, group theory and ensemble classes to our students in a 2-hour session. Each class is designed to complement each other and develop musical skills of our students while learning to enjoy making music with others. A wide range of instruments are on offer.
Having establishing ourselves as a solid alternative to mainstream Western music education in Sri Lanka, we are now setting up our own curriculum with the help of international music educator and expert adviser from New Zealand (Hugh Stevenson).
We'll be presenting the newly developed curriculum to existing parents as well as potential new parents of students at two open day sessions on Dec 7th and 14th from 2pm - 330pm (both sessions will be identical).
We'd like to openly invite anyone who is interested in coming to see these presentations. Venue: Musicmatters premises at 92/1a D.S.Senanayaka mw, Borella.
