Organised by 18 interactors of the Interact Club of Royal College, the semi finals of the Inter School Drama Competition was held at the Lionel wendt on the 28th of April 2015. Ananda College, St. Peter's College, St Bridget's Convent, Mahamaya Girl’s College and Visakha Vidyalaya took to stage displaying  their creativity and flair for acting.

Ananda College based their play on a post apocalyptic wasteland, with focus on a sage who refused to believe that the actual sage, filled with eternal wisdom was present, while St.Bridget’s Convent enacted ‘Like I wanted’, a play about  life after suicide . It focuses on the ones we leave behind and how their lives break apart because of our actions as seen through the mind of Joanne, a 17 year old girl living in the States. The play included a flashback of scenes, at home, during therapy, and at school.

Visakha Vidyalaya performed ‘4 am’, asking of us, what is it like to be awake when the rest of the world is asleep? This play takes you through many moments that most of us face in our everyday life with a variety of  teen characters searching their way for connection in the magic hour. The fact that nobody is alone and everyone gets through their dreams and fears was indicated, leaving the characters to wonder, is there anybody out there?

Mahamaya Girl’s College dramatized a Russian comedy written by Anton Chekhov which is woven around a bank, in which there are four main characters including Shipuchin the Bank Chairman, Hirin the Bookkeeper, Tatiana the Chairman's wife and Merchutkina, an old lady who comes into the scene with a bizarre but pathetic story, bringing out the humour in the play.

Meanwhile, the cast of St. Peter's College performed their version of Norman Mckinnel's 'The Bishop's Candlesticks' which is a play set during the time of the French Revolution. Being an adaptation of the novel 'Les Miserables', the plot is centred on the initial scenes where the convict (Jean Valjean) steals the silver candlesticks from the Bishop. Filled with emotional intensity and sufficient humour, this drama was executed with finesse.

Out of the five schools, St. Bridget’s Convent, Visakha Vidyalaya and St. Peter’s College won places at the finals, which will take place on the 13th of May from 6.30pm onwards at Lionel Wendt, Colombo 07. The evening promises to be thrilling, intense and more importantly an exhibition of talent and ability.
