Electric Peacock Festival Presents Frank Meehan and the Jitterbug!
The team behind the Electric Peacock Festival have been bubbling with excitement these past few days not only because they are a few days away from the festival but also because they have a new announcement on their line up! “We are thrilled to announce the opening act for the festival,” exclaims Tasha, Co Founder of the Electric Peacock, “Frank Meehan and the Jitterbug are an amazing duo who love hip-hop and general festival fun! We have worked with them a number of times before, in London and Paris and we are witness to the madness they bring to stage!”
The duo are made up of MC, Frank Meehan and the backline is provided by DJ Jitterbug. They are festival veterans, playing across a number of large events and festivals all across the UK. We caught up with Frank and Jitterbug to get their take on music and festivals.
You both are seasoned pros’ at the music Festival circuit. What festivals have you played this year and which one was your favourite?
This year was a quiet year for us, we have been taking it easy and saving ourselves for Electric Peacock, we did manage to get out a couple of times and played Nozstock and Boomtown. Boomtown is great, the whole place is done up like a film set and everyone is very much in the party mood!
What made you get into music and how did you get into MC’ing and DJ’ing?
We both got into electronic music at the end of the 90’s when people used to play on these things called turntables [*Frank jokes*]. Jitterbug used to be behind the decks and I used to host on the mic at different clubs in our hometown of Hereford, then we started putting on nights of our own and it went from there. We’re still friends and we still enjoy playing music together so why stop!
Who are your main musical inspirations? What would you recommend to our audience as the best of new music?
Hmmm… that’s a hard one, there are to many, it’s always been about the groove, the beat and the bass, whether its hip hop or jazz – that’s what we’re looking for.
What genre would you prescribe too? Which one best describes your music?
Probably hip-hop, but that’s a pretty loose definition; maybe breaks, no one likes to put their selves in a box!
What’s been the highlight of both of your music careers, together or independently of each other?
Supporting Grand Master Flash, the father of hip-hop, was probably one of our best experiences; he was a gent and a legend.
What are you expecting from Sri Lanka and the Electric Peacock Festival?
Sri Lanka: Sun, smiles and sea. Electric Peacock Festival: A lady never kisses and tells, you’ll have to wait and see!
