GLF rolls out sensational, first-of-its-kind Kandy programme

January festival in Kandy on 8th- 10th, Galle on 13th - 17th and Jaffna on 23rd – 24th

Premier regional literary event, the Fairway Galle Literary Festival 2016, has unveiled a sensational and uniquely diverse programme for its first-of-its-kind mini festival in Kandy, to be held on January 8-10, 2016. Tickets are now on sale for Kandy and Galle, while the mini festival in Jaffna is free of charge for attendees.

An initiative to encompass even more of Sri Lanka’s unique culture and diversity, this year’s mini festival in Kandy hopes to increase access to the Festival for people who, for various reasons, can’t attend the main festival in Galle. Kandy with its ancient history, its lovely location, its sophisticated audience and, particularly, the presence of the University of Peradeniya’s intelligentsia and students, make it a perfect new venue for the Festival.

As such, those attending the Kandy mini festival can look forward to “In Conversation’s” featuring writer’s talking about and reading from their work; “Thinking Out Loud” sessions, which allows audiences more in-depth contact with international authors; Literary Lunches and Dinners; as well as Excursions and Performances. As part of its commitment to incorporating the other national languages into the Festival, the programme in Kandy will kick off with a panel in Sinhala featuring some of the best literary talent in the Sinhala language.

Excitingly, the Kandy mini festival will also encompass marquee sessions “SEBASTIAN FAULKS on Faulks on Fiction”; “SEBASTIAN FAULKS on Where My Heart Used to Beat”; “SHANI MOOTOO on Cereus Blooms at Night and Moving Forward Sideways like a Crab”; “OVIDIA YU on Aunty Lee’s Delights and Aunty Lee’s Deadly Specials”; and “HUGH THOMSON on The Green Road into the Trees: A Walk through England”, to name but a few.

Tickets are available on line at wow.lk and for those that prefer to purchase tickets at physical locations, tickets are also being sold at three physical box office venues, in Colombo (wow.lk offices, 176/1, Thimbirigasyaya Road, Colombo 5), Kandy (Empire Cafe, Temple Street, Kandy) and Galle (25, Leyn Baan Street, Galle Fort). All three ticket sales venues are open from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., from Monday to Saturday.

Further, as in previous years, school children and teachers continue to enjoy great concessionary rates on their festival tickets, with these offers available only available for purchases made at the physical box-office locations with student/teacher identification cards in hand.
