Fashion amongst youngsters

Fashion is an important feature amongst the youth. With the ever changing world of fashion, new designs are being introduced to keep the market up and running.  However, fashion too is an aspect that has its pros and cons. While some believe revealing clothes give rise to sexual harassment and the like, others disregard this as a silly notion, firmly advocating the right of anyone to dress any way they please.

The Daily Mirror Life spoke to a few people to listen to their opinions regarding this issue.

Harsha

“People should first learn how their body looks like. This applies mainly for girls. Some may not look good in tight jeans and others may look prettiest in a short dress. If you wear a short dress on the roads you will hear enough from people such as trishaw drivers. This culture will not change and therefore those who wear them should think twice.”

Madusha

“Fashion is for everybody. Feedback from others totally depends on the way you dress yourself. Sometimes you have to think of the appropriate attire for a particular function. Like you cannot wear casual wear for a wedding and vice versa.”

Priyanka

“It all depends on how you wear it. Fashion is interesting if you follow it properly.”

Anestha

“Biggest problem is that young girls and boys think that they can try out every fashion that they see on television, which is not the case. Ours is an Asian culture and we mostly would see girls in covered clothes. So when they expose themselves just for the sake of it, they are of course asking for trouble.”

Christine

“It’s a matter of choice and dressing wisely.”

Samantha

“Sexual harassment is not provoked only by the dress. There’s a psychological aspect to it as well.”

Thejith

“You need to dress to a limit but it is not the sole reason why people rape girls. It depends on their mindset. Girls have to be cautious too when dressing attires that expose themselves.”

Isuri

“There’s a limit for everything. People are provoked by everything that they see. More than the youth we see old people trying to harass young girls. They sometimes act like psychopaths.”
