Electric Peacock Festival: Sri Lanka’s greatest music festival returns for third year.
Electric Peacock is back and bigger than ever. Saturday, April 27th 2013 plays host to a fantastic line up of international established and new artists for the discerning music lover in Sri Lanka.
The Directors of the Festival, Leah Bazalgette and Tasha Marikkar have been very excited to have Electric Peacock move dates from their usual December calendar to April.
“We wanted to move the festival into a season when little was going on in Sri Lanka,” said Leah Bazalgette, “the event calendar in December was becoming jam packed with events that were consistently pushing electronic dance music, and we believed we needed to highlight our festival offering in comparison to the other events taking place in Colombo. And what we have on offer this year is better than anything that has taken place in Sri Lanka.”
It's a welcome relief to have a jam-packed entertainment event like the Electric Peacock during this quiet season. Furthermore, the Directors have promised that there will be a number of exciting activities within the festival grounds, over and above the music.
“The Electric Peacock Festival strives to push boundaries every year. As curators of the festival, Leah and myself look to bring down hot, fresh talent to perform as well as create new and unique experiences within the festival grounds. This year look out for our incredible art collaboration with Academy of Design,” beamed Tasha.
The festival directors have developed new collaborations with strong sub-culture groups specifically skating and break-dancing to showcase at the festival as part of a unique installation. “We believe that hosting Sri Lankan breakdancers and skaters at the festival will get the crowds pumping and get into the vibe of the party, not to mention adding diversity to our show,” said Leah.
More so, the team is very keen to encourage their festival-goers to plan their outfits in advance and ensure they try to dress up according to the theme planned for their third year. “Our theme this year is based on a famous book called ‘Where the wild things are’.
We hope that all the festival goers will come dressed up in animal print or animal costumes, or just be inspired to be wild!” explained Tasha. The festival pioneered the first free costume tent in 2011 and will be giving away more free costumes this year.
In another festival industry first, Electric Peacock is collaborating with the British Council on a special music project to launch The Selector programme in Sri Lanka. The Selector is an international showcase for the best new music the UK has to offer, a 2 hour weekly programme that covers all styles of music from indie, dubstep, folk, soul, electro and everything in between – much like Electric Peacock Festival’s multi-genre platform. As part of this exciting collaboration, the British Council will be featuring a fresh new artist from the UK as a main support artist at this year’s festival. Watch this space.
Electric Peacock is in its’ third year running as Sri Lanka’s only live multi-genre music festival featuring international and local all stars. It’s looking to be a fantastic event and the announcement of the headliner artist will be revealed this week.
For more information on the event and what to expect, log on to their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/electricpeacock or go to their website: www.electricpeacockfestival.com . Tickets will be made available this week through their exclusive ticket partner Wow.lk
