Sri Lanka gets ready as Electric Peacock Festival is back and it’s changing the event game once again!
Electric Peacock, Sri Lanka’s biggest international multi genre music festival returns on the 4th of December 2015 and it promises to be the best year yet! “We are very excited to bring back the festival after a two year hiatus”, states Festival Co-Founder, Leah Bazalgette, “We are focusing on building the festival experience this year and creating opportunities for all our attendees to be involved in the atmosphere, mainly with the unique activities that we plan to have within the festival site.”
Much like festivals across Europe and the USA, Electric Peacock Festival aims to be more than just a music concert and is looking to move into a performing arts platform focusing around culture, arts, theatre and music. “This will create a more holistic and enjoyable experience for everyone that chooses to attend our event,” said Tasha Marikkar, Co-Founder of the Festival, “We are trying to distinguish the Festival from a lot of ‘me-too’ events that have popped up since we started and are looking to expand on our ethos to create a real festival much like Glastonbury and Bestival have. We already have the foundations for this with our free costume boxes, our live art experiences with Academy of Design, bespoke sponsor experiences and our subculture pop up areas.”
Over the years, the team have focused on building the festivals’ reputation globally and attracting attendees from South Asia and the UK, now marketing it actively to territories such as India, UK and the Middle East. The festival itself has received great reviews and coverage from global publications like DJ Mag and the BBC. “Even though our main priority is to build the festival for the local market first and foremost, we are working towards our bigger goal of making a music tourism product for the larger South Asia region and hopefully look to build our audiences in Europe who will package the festival in as part of their holiday plans in Sri Lanka,” affirms Leah. The team have already looked into this by partnering with hospitality companies to create bespoke festival packages to drive tourists from the region.

On top of a Grammy award winning line up, the event organisers are buzzing with exciting new pop ups that they hope to premiere at the festival this year. “There may be a return of a certain stage that debuted in December 2011,” teases Tasha, “also we have created a whole new programme of fun new immersive experiences this year to look out for. So watch this space for all the exclusive updates!”
