Electric Peacock Festival Summons The Force; DJ Yoda Set To Take The Main Stage
You know you are about to witness a real DJ Yoda set when his signature track, ‘The Star Wars Theme’ by John Williams is the first song that this groundbreaking turntablist begins his set with. He calls it his ‘trade mark’ stamp. He has been named by world famous Q Magazine as one of the ‘top ten DJs to see before you die’ and Hip Hop Connection have named him one of the ‘top three DJs in the world’. And these publications know what they are talking about.
DJ Yoda has an incredible ability to make even the most civilized of events a full- blown mega party; ensuring that everyone is partied out and happy. “I have had the privilege of seeing DJ Yoda perform at Glastonbury and Somersault festival,” states Festival Co-Founder, Tasha Marikkar, “by far, they have been one of the best times I have experienced at these festivals. Yoda’s music is infectious, there is no way that you can stop dancing to his set and at the end of the set, you just want him to come back and play for ten more hours!”
Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series showcases a tongue-in-cheek mixing style. Pioneering a new entertainment art form, his AV shows are audio-visual anarchy, cutting the best Sci-Fi movie moments with 80s electro, or YouTube viral hits with contemporary hip-hop. The past decade has seen Yoda evolve from hip-hop beginnings, using his world renowned turntable skills and a truckload of influences as diverse as funk, trap, pop, reggae, drum ‘n’ bass, and even big band swing and country & western, to make unashamed party music.
He has worked with some of the best artists in the world including Boy George, Roots Manuva, and even ‘Police Academy’ voice effects king Michael Winslow to name a few.
Music isn’t his only talent, Yoda seems to be a bit of a foodie too; in the summer of 2015, he even opened his own American soul food and barbeque restaurant in London! If you are lucky to catch it, sometimes he even does impromptu sets there – so you can imagine how much fun the restaurant can be!
“Yoda has graced every big festival in the globe today, including Bestival and Glastonbury, and has been extremely excited about his upcoming set in Sri Lanka at the Electric Peacock Festival 2015 on December 4. So make sure that you check out his mixtapes on YouTube in preparation. You may want to make sure you have practiced all your dance moves before you get to the festival, ” jokes Leah Bazalgette, Co-Founder of the Festival.
