IT HAS only been a couple of days since Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced they are separating after 11 years of marriage.
The pair shared the news in a post on Paltrow’s Goop blog on Tuesday. However, the actress’ best friend, Cameron Diaz, is already speaking out about her friend’s decision.
“People want them to blow up and it to be ugly, but they’re kind, generous, loving people who really care about one another,” Diaz said in an interview with E! News.
“Just because they don’t want to be a couple together, doesn’t mean that they have to hate one another. They are really good friends.”
Gwyneth and Chris: a ‘conscious uncoupling’
Diaz’s remarks come in response to Paltrow and Martin’s fans who’ve been looking for an answer to what went wrong in the couple’s marriage.
“They’ve made a conscious effort to separate the part of their lives they don’t want to live together anymore, and maintain a really beautiful, strong bond as parents and as friends ...” Diaz elaborated. “I think people should really honour that and they should admire it and they should respect it. They’ve done something really extraordinary and they’ve been very brave at presenting that to the public.”
Diaz and Paltrow became close friends after the death of Diaz’s father in 2008. Both of the actresses’ dads died at the age of 58 and they bonded over their losses.
Now, Diaz is standing by Paltrow and Martin as they move into the next phase of their lives as separated parents. “She’s doing great. They’re doing great,” she said.
