Social norms and traditions are often strictly followed across many cultures. These traditions have evolved through the ages and today we find many young couples dating each other. With the advent of new technologies and changing definitions of traditional dating, "dating" has become a more open and self-interpreted tradition over the century. Understanding the fact that the concept of dating is perceived in different ways across cultures, the Daily Mirror Life spoke to some young buds to listen to their thoughts about this concept.

I’m from Jaffna and our parents always keep an eye on us. So it’s difficult to date someone there. But when it comes to Colombo this tradition has changed.
Ishara
When taking European countries this is another culture. But in the Sri Lankan context there’s always a negative side to it. Parents being strict about these kinds of habits are not a problem because they understand this world better than young ones.
Chethana
It has changed with the culture. In rural areas you see that parents are way more protective than most parents residing in Colombo.

Dating is not a bad habit but it should be done to a certain limit. Some couples go beyond their limit and this is why parents have become strict over issues like this.
Chathula
Dating is a part of the human life cycle and it shouldn’t be looked upon as a bad habit. Parents are also doing their role by caring for their children and not allowing them to fall out of track. But in my opinion, dating should be done to a limit.
