The fire and spice of Latin American and the poise of smooth ballroom all together in an evening of amazing dancing and competition is drawing ever so close. Yes we’re talking about Dancesport 2013. The most anticipated event on the dance calendar is well and truly underway.
The 7th international Dancesport championship will happen on the 1st of September at the Colombo Hilton. The infamous competition will commence at 6.30pm where the crème de la crème will take the floor for the chance to emerge victors of the Sri Lanka Dancesport Championship 2013.
This is the biggest event on the Latin and Ballroom dancing calendar in Sri Lanka hands down and we all know how hard dancers train for this one. The hopefuls of this contest put in months of grueling and spend long hours per day practicing and perfecting their routines. This is a competition that takes it to a whole other level, given the international competition that comes to our shores for this championship, the bar is raised and set high and so are the stakes.
This is a competition uncompromising on its standards and those who take up the challenge never disappoint the audience and always leave the judges hating their job.
England, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, China and India will be joining in with this event and showing representation. With more sequins per square meter of fabric and glitter you could reasonably expect to find anywhere else in Colombo Dancesport 2013 will dazzle you for certain.
Dancesport is organized by Footwork events, led by popular dance guru and probably the biggest dance enthusiast in the country Mr. Dharshan Wijesooriya. This event is one of the most rewarding of dance competitions for our local talent and the stepping stone for a taste of real international competition. Footwork Events takes great pride and pleasure to present Dancesport, the pinnacle of dance championships in the country, which gives opportunity for dancers to flaunt their talents and be most rewarded for it.
Dancesport benefits our local dancers by giving them the opportunity to experience a taste of what the international standard is like by bringing in international competitors and judges, the former give them a good challenge and challenge the best in them while the latter mark them based on very high standards which are anything but lenient.
Winners walk away with awards and prize money and the great honour of titles. This time’s winners will take home a cash prize of 5000 dollars. With more than 75 couples entered in the competition it’s going to be very interesting to see who will take home this grand prize with that many vying for the title and 10 international judges will determine who would best the competition.
This time there will be sixteen events under both categories (Standard/Ballroom and Latin American) which include the junior events and senior events. It is always wonderful to watch the kids in their budding talent swirl their skill on the floor and it is an inspiration to watch the senior competitors as well take the floor in competition and rise to the challenge in their own categories. The amateur and professional events; however is where the real competition lies. So brace your selves for an evening that is bound to take your breath away.
This being one of the most different and out of the box events we have in the country it is only common knowledge that tickets have been selling out like hot cakes. Only a few remain and they will be available at the Colombo Hilton, special events desk.
