The arts not only inspire us and serve as an output for creativity, but they also have the power to bring us closer together. Dance Fest 2013 is an excellent demonstration of this fact and how much power the art of dancing in specific has in not only providing a stage for young dancers to showcase their talents, but also in providing a platform for interaction for students from across the island.

Celebrating its 5th annual year, this year’s Dance Fest will be held from the 19th to the 21st of February at the Bishops College auditorium.

Starting 5 years ago as a competition solely for international schools organized by Alethea International School, Dance Fest has now evolved into an all island competition, fuelled by nothing else but the demand for an all-inclusive platform for the show casing of young talent.

Dance Fest is currently the only Dance Competition in Sri Lanka that is open to international, private and public schools, mainly due to the philosophy and motivation behind the competition which is simply to bring different cultures and people together through the celebration of dance.

To reiterate and emphasize this message, each day during the competition will focus on 3 different cultures of dance:

The 19th- Eastern

The 20th- Western

The 21st- Mixed

These three days will be topped off by an award ceremony which will be held on the 22nd of February. Competitions will also be held in the following age groups:

1. Junior- 6 to 10 years

2. Intermediate- 11 to 14 years

3. Senior- 15 to 19 years

4. Open Age Group- Mixed Category Only

The deadline for registrations closes on the 6th of February. Since there only a limited number of slots available, it would be an extremely bright idea to apply now!
