After former Australian batsman Brett Lee tried his hands at singing, we have Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh following suit. On Tuesday evening, Harbhajan tweeted on a micro-blogging site saying "watch my first song ever sung by me on YouTube..type Harbhajan Singh-Ik Suneha..thanks a lot for your love and support guys...bless."
Following the tweet, the cricketer was congratulated by Indian cricketers and friends Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh. The song and video features Harbhajan reciting a poem in Punjabi. A strong worded piece of poetry, the video showcases him expressing "the real Punjabi and not what they are shown to be otherwise."
When contacted the cricketer admitted that when he heard the lyrics of Ik Suneha, it inspired him to take it up. "I am not singing but reciting the lines that portray a very strong message. I strongly believe in the lyrics that say so much about who Punjabi people really are and not what they are shown to be otherwise."
Believing strongly in the poem, Harbhajan further said, "For instance Jats are not people who fight, they are annadatas and play various other roles like that of a judge, farmer etc. It's an important message for a lot of people who have been singing songs that don't mean anything. Ashleel gaane are demeaning. People need to understand that we are responsible for what we say," he said.
Harbhajan also mentioned that he sang for a track that pays tribute to all mothers. "I am not a singer and don't have what it takes to be a singer, but this message was close to my heart and when I heard the lyrics of this track, I was impressed," he shared.
The cricketer will also be producing two Punjabi films which will feature Punjabi actors. "I can't divulge any details at the moment. But I am not acting in the film for sure," he said.
