HSBC Colombo Fashion Week Resortwear – 5^th and 6^th October

Take note ladies and gentleman, resortwear has never been so fashionable!   Many of those considered fashion royalty is in attendance to unveil, the long-anticipated, 2^nd installment, of Colombo Fashion Week Resortwear show.

To be set in the iconic city of Galle this year, the 2 day fashion bonanza will showcase 14 designers and is set to be even more successful than last year.  All those involved, agree Galle is the perfect location. Mr Prasad Bidapa, in particular praised the choice saying, ‘ Galle is so beautiful.  We have a natural setting of the historic Fort town on day one and on day 2 we are at the beautiful Jetwing Lighthouse.’

Sri Lanka is thought to be the perfect place to demonstrate resortwear, because of our climate and booming tourist industry.  President of CFW, Mr Ajai Singh comments, ’10 years ago people packed differently.  All they wanted was simple swimwear.  Now, people want holiday wear, swimwear and beach wear…resortwear is growing around the World and Sri Lanka is at the forefront.’

CFW has always been a great place for local designers to showcase themselves, and this year proves to be even better with 11 Sri Lankan designers.  CFW will be partnering with the Local Crafts Council of Sri Lanka to provide exposure for artists that use traditional craft techniques.

When asked whether Sri Lankan Fashion takes a lot of influence from Western and Eastern Culture, Mr. Singh replied ‘The young designers have strong Western influences, but at the same time are very rooted in their own culture, for example with the use of Batik.’ 

The Resortwear collection, is a new and exciting concept, but given the success of last year’s show, I think it is safe to say, the concept of resortwear is set to go Worldwide, so watch this space.
