Because safe, sartorial choices are for wimps!
Celebs are always on a quest to stand out and “make a statement”. After all, any publicity is good publicity, right? And what better way to make a statement than on a red carpet? Although celebs constantly push the envelope with their sartorial choices, many simply fall flat while a few aim to shock and elicit responses ranging from PETA attention to social media criticism.
While some celebs aim to attract scrutiny with bizarrely inexplicable outfits, scores of A-list celebs are joining ranks with Z-list celebs in proving that you don't really need clothes to make a fashion statement - less is more, amirite? Besides, nothing screams classy like waltzing into supposedly dignified affairs looking like a hot mess.
This list isn't anywhere near all encompassing, but it does include many repeat offenders whose sartorial offenses will no doubt span innumerable pages. Love them or hate them, you can’t deny that these celebrities are not afraid to wear whatever they want, judgemental society be damned!
Lady Gaga
Made of 100 percent all natural meat, designer Franc Fernandez is said to have sourced the meat from his Los Angeles butcher. We wouldn’t have been surprised if people decided to steer clear of the star thanks to her gag-inducing outfit.
Rose McGowan
McGowan's barely there outfit at the MTV music awards, turned heads for all the wrong reasons. Let’s just say that the mesh and chain number left little to the imagination.
Coco Austin
Coco, wife of rapper Ice T, is famed for outfits that show off her voluptuous figure. So no one was really surprised when she sported this mesh bodycon dress at the 2005 VMAs.
Lil Kim
In case you were curious what it would look like if someone wore a spider web, now you know.
Katie Price
Halloween came early at an event celebrating the fifth anniversary of the KP Equestrian range, when Katie Price - in keeping with the equestrian theme - decided to turn up channelling My Little Pony.
Miley Cyrus
An outrageous outfits list regular, Miley Cyrus hosted this years VMAs in a plethora of barely there outfits. Clearly, Miley has taken to heart that less is more.
Kim Kardashian
Pregnant with North West at the time, Kim wore this tacky dress - to the Met Gala, no less - that elicited countless memes and jokes on the internet. The Riccardo Tisci floral number was unbearably overwhelming and without a doubt, an eyesore.
M.I.A.
What’s with these pregnant stars wearing ridiculously hideous clothes? Maybe we should blame it on the hormones.
Amber Rose
Curvaceous Amber Rose wore this revealing chain outfit to the VMAs, and was instantly called out for replicating Rose McGowan's style.
Rihanna
Usually famous for her risque outfits, Rihanna evoked a different attention for this modest dress that drew comparison to Barbie, cotton candy and even a sponge!
