A complaint has been filed in a local court in Kanpur on Sunday against the Bollywood actor Aamir Khan over an “obscene” poster promoting his forthcoming drama PK.

The complaint was filed by Abhishek Bhargava, a law student. Khan posed nude for the poster of the film, directed by Raj Kumar Hirani and is due out in India on December 19.

In his complaint, Bhargava said the poster would “promote obscenity in the society. Therefore, I have requested the court to register a case in the matter under relevant sections”.

The hearing will be held on October 15.

Twitter has since exploded with jokes about the poster, which some claim was inspired by the art on an album by the Portuguese musician Quim Barreiros.
